2017 Municipal Election Endorsements
Georgia Stonewall Democrats is pleased to see the commitment to LGBTQ equality exhibited by so many candidates for local office this cycle. As we reviewed the submissions and agreed to endorse each candidate a certain pattern emerged; we are clearly looking at the future.
These endorsements reflect credible candidates with long histories of leadership, elected or within their communities. In many cases these are people we’ve interacted with for many years, in many different environments, in both difficult and joyous circumstances.
This talented, diverse, engaged and hardworking field is encouraging.
We recognize that not all candidates running for nonpartisan office would be comfortable with our partisan label. Any exclusion of a particular candidate or municipal race should not be construed as a non-endorsement or slight to any candidate.
Atlanta Mayor:
We thought especially hard this cycle about the changes, challenges and promise of the future of the city of Atlanta. The abundance of energetic and engaged candidates, presents understandably tough decisions for us and for voters. Since we’ve endorsed a number of the candidates in the past and watched many of them grow and form deep attachments to the constituents they serve, we have decided to continue to monitor the campaigns and messaging and consider any new information that may arise before reaching a final decision.
